More than 60 researchers participated in the National scientific conference on “Banking law and Banking activities in the Digital economy”
Update day: 15-11-2024On the morning of November 15, 2024, the University of Law, Hue University, in collaboration with the School of Economics, Law, and Public Management of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, co-organized the national scientific conference titled “Banking Law and Banking Activities in the Digital Economy.” The conference attracted more than 60 participants, including scientists, doctoral candidates, lecturers, graduate students, undergraduate students from domestic and international universities, as well as lawyers from various organizations.
The conference was attended by Judge Hoàng Quang Bình, Deputy Chief Justice of the People's Court of Thừa Thiên Huế Province; Lawyer Lê Văn Lập from the Thừa Thiên Huế Bar Association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meritorious Teacher Phạm Thị Giang Thu from the Hanoi University of Law; Dr. Trần Thị Tuấn Anh, Vice Rector of the School of Economics, Law, and Public Management, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics; representatives from the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) and the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank); as well as representatives from Luật Việt Đông Á Law Office and Passio Lawyers Co., Ltd.
Representing the University of Law, Hue University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Duy Phương, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Rector, participated in the conference alongside representatives of various department heads from the university.
In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Duy Phương emphasized that the conference provided a platform for experts, policymakers, researchers, and businesses to exchange, discuss, and share experiences and knowledge on banking law. It also aimed to explore feasible solutions for enhancing the legal and policy frameworks to support banking activities in the digital economy.
Plenary Session Highlights
The conference featured two keynote presentations: “The Development of Digital Banking and Its Impact on Banking Operations” by Mr. Nguyễn Đức Lệnh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the State Bank of Vietnam, and “Banking Institutions and Operations in the Digital Economy for Rapid and Sustainable Economic Development” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Thị Giang Thu, an esteemed lecturer and senior faculty member from Hanoi Law University.
Focused Topics and Discussions
Focusing on practical and applicable themes, the conference selected 19 papers for direct presentation out of 30 submissions. These papers addressed various topics, including:
- Banking laws and financial technology (fintech)
- Legal risks, crime prevention, and handling legal violations in banking
- Sustainable development and security in the banking industry
- Comparative law and international practices
During the thematic sessions, an open discussion welcomed valuable contributions from scientists and experts regarding issues in banking and banking law in Vietnam. Topics of interest included customer data security, secure procedural frameworks, and practical recommendations to strengthen Vietnam's legal system.
